Somewhat Wordless Picture Books

Here are some of the books that were on the wordless picture books I found that in fact had words. Still worth a read and great if you're wanting to focus on one of the types of texts below.

Onomatopoeia:
The Lion and the Mouse, Jerry Pinkney
Red Sled, Lita Judge
Wolf in the Snow, Matthew Cordell
Leaf, Stephen Michael King

Intermittent text throughout:
Clara and Asha, Eric Rohmann
Carl's Snowy Afternoon, Alexandra Day
Goodnight, Gorilla, Peggy Rathman
The Boy & the Book, David Michael Slater & Bob Kolar

Couple lines of text total:
Mr. Wuffles, David Wiesner
Beaver is Lost, Elisha Cooper
Little Fox in the Forest, Stephanie Graegin

Text is time/dates/street signs only:
Tuesday, David Wiesner
Once Upon a Banana, Jennifer Armstrong & David Small
Waltz of the Snowflakes, Elly Mackay
Thunderstorm, Arthur Geisert

The key with these books is to not spend much time focusing on the text if possible. Have your child guess at the word or say the name or sounds of letters they know but keep it fun! And keep the focus on the illustrations and story not the words.
