Good Food

Andrew and I have been trying to come up with a meal plan idea that will work for our family. We've done some batch cooking freezer meals and a weekly meal plan with a weekly grocery shop, we've gone to the grocery store every other day for an even shorter plan.

I like going out to eat, Andrew likes only eating at home. I don't love left overs, Andrew hates any food waste.

We talked to another couple about their meal kit service and that sparked Andrew to look into it more closely.

He chose Good Food and we received our first three meals the next week. We loved all three meals. Pictured above was the Curry Meatball with Apple/Kohlrabi salad. Our entire family really enjoyed making and eating the meal together!

Below is Pork with Roasted Broccoli and Cornbread. It was supposed to have an apricot glaze but Andrew added the glaze to the cornbread instead of some honey :) Thankfully we had a generous supply of orange marmalade and I came up with a substitute glaze. The cornbread was surprisingly moist with a hint of apricot, we might have come up with something new!

And our third meal was Chicken Parmesan with Caesar Salad which was good but the salad was simple. We added the croutons and parmesan flakes.

Our second week's meals we chose Ancho Chicken Tacos with a Yellow Beet and Cabbage Slaw which were delicious. I loved every part of this.

We also chose Haddock en Papillote with Herb Butter, Black Rice and Carrots & Leek. The vegetables were especially delicious!

The main downside is the packaging waste. They do their best to make everything recyclable or compostable, but it's still a lot of packaging even if very little goes into the landfill. Also, the meat says it's best eaten within three days of delivery. So you have to plan to eat your meals shortly after they arrive or freeze the meat and hope the rest doesn't go bad.

Overall, the food has been great and Andrew, E and I have enjoyed it. T's begun a meat-only diet and throws anything else off his tray as only a one-year old can, so not quite a win for him. We're going to stick with this for a while as we continue to look into other options too!
