Camping Preschooler Must-Haves

1. Kid's Camp Chair
These are often readily available at the beginning of summer. I found having a special chair for them to sit in makes fire safety a little easier. It also doesn't take up that much room when car-camping.

2. Mosquito Net
Perhaps your preschooler isn't the mosquito magnet mine is, in which case this isn't for you. My son would wake up with 20-30 new bites on his hands, neck and face every morning even after we went mosquito hunting before bed and are as quick as we can getting in and out of the tent.

3. First Aid Kit
Preschoolers are almost guaranteed to need something from a first aid kit. I suggest putting together a big one in a bin. Here's a link to an in-depth list of what to pack.

4. Running Shoes
Even if your child has been living in some form of sandal all summer, running shoes are essential. Evenings can get cool, embers can fall near feet, and ideally you'll be having them doing a lot of running around / hiking.

5. Life Jacket
While camping we like to do some canoeing  and swimming in deep water. Since we have a baby, bringing the preschooler's life jacket is great as a safety measure even in shallow water. It's not always possible to have eyes on the older one when the younger requires constant attention at the water.

6. Tub of Toys
I suggest a tub filled with easy to clean toys that don't have small pieces. Since everything can be cleaned up into one place it's less likely to lose things.

7. Family Sized Tent
With a baby/toddler you can often get away with a smaller tent. Once our child was preschool-aged we found a family tent with 2 rooms and entry from either side of tent allowed our kids to keep sleeping when we entered the tent and stay in their bed more readily in the morning.

8. Bugspray & Bite Cream
I mentioned how much the mosquitoes like E. A safe bugspray is a must for our family. Since preventing them is almost impossible for him, bite cream is even more important for our family. I can't say enough about this line of natural products.
