Week 7: Am I Being Punk'd?

So in order to spare those who are squeamish, I'm going to go through our week and get to the Punk'd part at the end. It might be TMI for some people, but I'm going to let Kristen Bell do the majority of the sharing for me (love her!).

Looks like I only took photos of my kids on screens or reading books this week. Guess that summarizes things pretty well, we kept things pretty low key this week.

Sunday April 26th
This was recovery day from camping the day/night before. The first night of camping is always hard (at least for our kids), and it was cold and it rained some too. So we really didn't sleep much overnight. We still managed to watch online church on time though. The boys put away the sleeping bags/mattresses and played and read books inside the tent. For their special one-on-one time, Andrew and E played the kids version of the Life game in the tent together. Our neighbour was giving away flat stones and concrete blocks so Andrew and the boys brought the ones we wanted over to our house.

We also opened up some cards from Granni and Papa and noticed the same word on T's shirt.

Monday April 27th
Monday, everyone was feeling grumpy. So we listened to the elephant version of Hickory Dickory Dock on repeat and put on some GoNoodle to get through the morning.

E had a French online play of La Petite Poule Rousse in the afternoon arranged by a friend. It was really fun and good practice speaking and listening to French. He played Le Canard.

Tuesday April 28th
Today was Pirate Day! Splash'n Boots is putting on daily shows at 10am and their theme today was pirates. The boys love dressing up and enjoyed their pirate hug, rolling around on the ground.
The dressup then morphed in to full magic shows and there was even a monkey running around at one point.

Wednesday April 29th
I'd sent the boys pirate photo in from Tuesday and they were showcased along with a bunch of other cute pirates on the Splash'n Boots show on Wednesday. They were very happy to see their photo up there.

I've been trying to get one-on-one time in with T in the mornings. I signed him up for a 30 minute music class through our local library and while E was doing some school work, we logged on to the Zoom call and had a fun time dancing with our teddies, banging wooden spoons, driving our cars and swinging a towel around. E also had his music class and is preparing a solo for his last class next week.

Thursday April 30th
The boys did a lot of independent playing in the morning, E playing the piano and T listening to books on cds. I had a School Council Meeting in the afternoon. It was nice to connect with the staff and other parents at E's school and see how we could help. Got the sad news that E's English teacher had to be rushed to the hospital to see a neurologist in another city and won't be back for at least a few weeks.

The boys have taken to watching a few minutes of French shows and I'm surprised at how much T likes them, even though I presume he doesn't understand much (certainly not near as much as E does). This is TroTro and we've also been watching the Mini Printemps series.

In the evening, I had a meeting with some people from church to discuss Vacation Bible School plans. I volunteered to coordinate (with another wonderful woman) an at-home / online VBS. Looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.

Friday May 1st
The weather was finally beautiful again! The boys and I spent a while doing our rendition of One Day in a Eucalyptus Eucalyptus Tree and my bed was the snake. It included wonderful sound effects from T when the snake regurgitates all the animals it had eaten. Andrew took the boys on a morning bike ride to drop off a large cardboard box off at a friend's house for them to play with.

E was really motivated to tidy up the basement so he had some space to open and build a Lego pack from his Gramma. The boys also pulled out some books we'd borrowed from my parents. It's fun to see them engrossed in reading, but also something special to see them reading the books I read as a kid.

In the afternoon our neighbour called to let Andrew and E know they were ready to demo their lean-to and they went over to watch it come down. And once T was up from quiet time, the boys and I spent the rest of the afternoon outside.

Saturday May 2nd
It was less sunny than Saturday and it just became a cozy comfort day. I stayed in bed for much of the morning while Andrew and the boys played/worked outside. Then we had a bike ride, baked cookies and had Movie Night - Veggie Tales Heroes of the Bible.
It was also T's first full week sitting at the table in a chair. It went exceptionally well. It's nice to wait until they're motivated to stay at the table to have them out of a booster with clips or a high chair (especially since T never fought sitting in the high chair).

Punk'd?
First off, I want to know why I didn't really know anything about this before. Apparently it's super common (and can be asymptomatic), but if it's so common, where are all the people I know who've had it? And why did they never warn me about this??? Also, it's disgusting.

And really, how are this many medical things coming up in such a short period when we're trying to avoid doctors' offices? How is this not a joke??

Kristen Bell talking about her experience.

Andrew also spent time on the phone with doctor on Friday just updating them on T's health status. We wanted to get clarity on how to know when his situation was an emergency and we should take him directly to emerg (at McMaster Children's) as opposed to waiting for our surgeon consult in July. So a lot more talking to doctors and going to the pharmacy (and laundry/vacuuming) than we planned or wanted this week!
