Family Update - we're still having adventures

But not always the kind we want.

The last couple months have been rough and that's a bit of an understatement. We're just starting to come out the other side of things and now COVID-19, enough said.

Here's a quick recap of life since Dec. 2019, much is less than great, but some was amazing!

Supporting Friends/Family with Health Issues

Refugee Community Dinners
Once a month starting January 2020, we attend/help support a Community Dinner where refugee claimants are invited to join an already existing Community Dinner.

Youth Group Retreat
I get to spend Friday nights with the teens from our church. We spent a fun winter weekend away in January.

Strike Days

Andrew Work Trip (solo parenting for a week)

Youth Group Series on Relationships
Along with another leader, I prepared and led discussions with teens on Friendships, Dating, Family Relationships and Sex. I really enjoyed doing this, but it was also a lot of work.

Miscarriage
Miscarried the pregnancy, thought I was almost 11 weeks along, but embryo stopped developing weeks earlier. Thankfully only had to take some medication and no D&C. We hadn't seen a heartbeat or a picture of the embryo which likely would have made feelings of loss stronger. Had some ups and downs but are doing well now, glad we hadn't told the boys (even though we'd taken the announcement photo) so we didn't have to get into everything while still upset ourselves.

Lawsuit
One and a half years ago, E ran to the edge of a road and stopped. A car wasn't sure he would so they stopped their car (safely). A motorcycle behind the car tried to stop but wasn't able to control it properly and fell of his bike. Now suing us (and the car's driver) for negligence etc.

Back Neighbour Developing Their Forested Property
Need to decide if we want to fight development or purchase half their land to protect the forest

Refugee Paperwork
I volunteer with refugees and one of the things we do together is fill out private sponsorship paperwork. One of two that I submitted in the fall came back end of February 2020 as having been denied and has to be resubmitted. Because of the complexity of the case and many moving parts it took us 3 years (an extraordinarily long time) to complete the paperwork in the first place. Still hoping our MP will be able to help us out and won't have to re-do everything.

Girls' Weekend with MIL and SILs

The usual continued before Social Distancing:
Small Group, Youth Group
E's activities: Skating, Otters, Highland Dance, Music
T's activities: Preschool, Playgroup, Swimming
Birthday Parties (5 in two months for E)
