Resolving a Kindergartener's Confusion Between 6 and 9
E has been confused about 6 and 9 for over a year now and it seems like any time he encounters either number he is truly just guessing whether it's a 6 or 9. I found a couple strategies that I tried.
Free Printable Posters
The first is a cute rhyme and I decided to make a set of two posters to hang in our living room so we can go over them occasionally and he can see them every day. Click on each picture below to download.
I decided to just have E practice one of the numbers he was confused with, the 9, by making it repeatedly out of yellow playdough. He decided to add a few rays to one of the nines to make it look more like a sun.
Blocks and Balls
We made the six out of blocks and put a ball in the circle of each one to reinforce the concept of the six kicking.
In just a few weeks he's come a long way at remembering on sight and if confused figuring it out with the rhyme.
